Arent you afraid of pirates?

We're going to the Mediterranean and the Carribean.  Pirates are in Venezuela and East Africa and well away from us.  We will be in well travelled waters.

I think we experience far greater risk on the inner loop of 495 at 8 am with half of the drivers on the phone (or texting, checking their GPS, etc.), or crossing the street, or at the convenience store, or even in our own neighborhood.  There is risk everywhere.  Frankly, I feel SAFER on the sailboat!!

Are you quitting your jobs?

Janet is completing a contract with the Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator.  All the work is done online with the occasional meetings in Guyana and in Washington DC.  So, it doesnt matter where the 'office' is.  For the consulting, pretty much the same answer.  I can work wherever I have internet access, which is pretty much all over Europe, I hear!

Code transitioned out of Zephyr in March 2011 to prepare for our trip full time.  He has his fingers in a couple of projects, as always!

We're both confident that we will resume our careers at that point.

What about the kids?

Yes, we're bringing them ;)

The kids will be schooled on the boat.  We're enrolled at The Learning Center International, which is a hybrid of correspondence and traditional home schooling.  It will give us flexibility to create a curriculum and syllabus that is relavant to our location and interests but will also provide structure (for us 'teachers') and some guidance on teaching the teachers.

The kids wont do the transatlantic passage to Lisbon, though.  It is just too far for them (and, I think, for me!).
